Ubuntu Dell, You Bunt Too!

May 8, 2007 by Brian

Dell has announced it is selling computers preloaded with Ubuntu Linux! I am delighted another mainstream vendor is dropping the “Microsoft tax” on their hardware.

  2. The man is focusing on the AIDS crisis on Africa instead of Microsoft so I don’t really care if he makes more money, but I am all for better products. Can’t say I have any idea what Linux is like but when I finally spill so much wine on my laptop that it gives up on me I might be looking a little deeper into my options.

  3. You are right, he does a lot of good, but as the richest guy in the world, you really ought to. But I think it is mostly PR (albeit with good consequences).

The One Laptop per Child (OLPC) initiative aims to create a $100 notebook computer for emerging countries. A while back, Gates made fun of the project, teasing the solar panel and secondary mechanical battery charger and for not running his shitty Windows OS. But now his company has muscled its way into the product and almost doubled the price ($175) — oh, it comes with Windows now.
