I mean you look out for them and don't want them to seriously hurt themselves, but there is a limit! At some point the kid doesn't even have a life anymore and other kids don't even want to play with the freaky kid that isn't allowed to do a damn thing. I remember a girl in high school that said she can't hang out and watch a movie cause she isn't allowed to watch horror movies. IT WAS 10th GRADE!!!

that is aweful! i can't even imagine! when i have kids they will be able to have a free for all and play how they would like. like you andrea snd jumping off balconies on to matresses and sliding down stairs and tobaganning without a helmet. That is what is great about being a kid! No skin on your knees, grass stains, bumps and bruises. Because how you got them made who you were. If you never do anything - how can you get anywhere?

when i interviewed for my teaching placement i met this little boy who clearly had one of those very overprotective mothers (which was made worse by the fact that he has aspergers). during recess he was trying (but not doing very well) to climb a tree. i started talking to him and he told me he was trying to climb the tree only cause he knew he couldn't do it cause it wasn't a climbing tree (he's right, it wasn't). i suggested that maybe he play on the slide since it's really fun. he said no cause when you slide down the slide sometimes it burns your skin. i noticed that a swing was vacant so i suggested that to him and he said that swinging is fine in the fall but when it warms up you run the risk of burning your hand on the chains. then he told me that he saw a boy stick his finger into a running hose and that the boys hand nearly broke because of all the water pressure so you shouldn't do that, or touch hot metal fences during the summer. he was seriously petrified of everything. it was both endearing and heartbreaking.

I know. A huge part of it has got to be that it was Rosie that took it and people think she's a dumbass. Plus, there's a lot of overprotective and overreactive people out there that see anything involving a child and freak out. Like those mothers that don't let their kids walk a single step without holding their hands(I've had the agony of watching one little girl grow up just like that and it is almost sad).

if the photo had been taken by a photographer/artist or any other non-celebrity people would be applauding it as art and a positive/strong anti-war statement.
