‘Miley, isn’t there enough pollution in the air?’ We’re Cherokee, that’s our background. And he’s like, ‘As a Cherokee, I really don’t think you want to do this.

weird marketing campaign

August 2, 2008 by Sarah

so, i was flipping through new york magazine and came across this strange add that talked about organizing against vampires.  i was all “what the fuck?” cause it has a .org address which is typically reserved for not for profits and the like.  clearly, i had to check out the address, and you should check this shit out too.

apparently it’s some random and odd marketing campiaing for yet another hbo series.  the site doesn’t make me want to watch it at all, how about you?

sexiest vegetarian celebrity 2008

May 19, 2008 by Sarah

i hate peta, i seriously do.  if you asked me why i really wouldn’t know where to start.  i do know that there would be lots of swearing and head shaking, probably paired together.  each year they release a really random list of celebrities who happen to be vegetarian so that we, the common people, can vote on their sexiness.  the list is typically pretty funny and sometimes surprising - i saw a few people on there that prompted a “who the fuck is that?” and others who got a “holy shit!  i never knew insertnamehere was vegetarian!”, i’m not saying that i feel i should be able to sense one of my own i’m just saying that i had no inkling which seems strange cause their should be some sort of secret sign that identifies vegetarians so that their kindred can spot them easily . . . umm, anyhow, check out the list here.

Making Web Content Expire

January 25, 2008 by Brian

I was reading this post at the signal vs noise blog, and found it interesting to set expirations for images and content.  I’d hate to have pictures of me from high school circulating the web because of a trendy-at-the-time blog, Facebook page or video post.

roger ebert

i use to hate this guy. i totally thought that all of his movie reviews were total bullshit. he was so unnecessarily mean and pompous. but now he’s totally won me over. his cancer battle is just so damn awful and he’s been such an adorable little trooper all the way through. he’s so cute in all of his interviews, saying lovely things, telling endearing stories, i seriously don’t see him as an acid tounged reviewer anymore. he’s melted my cold little heart. either that or i’m going soft in my old age. either way, i dare you to look at this photo of roger ebert and not fall a little in love:

a little piece of goodness

January 5, 2008 by Sarah

here’s the back story to this little piece of goodness:

My parents are Jehovah’s Witnesses and so I had a very strict Christian upbringing. There was a suspicion of rock and pop music, and some music, Led Zeppelin in particular, was branded downright evil. The rumor was that if you played Stairway to Heaven in reverse you could hear messages that would urge you to follow the devil’s path. Supposedly even if you listened to the music in a normal manner you would subconsciously pick up these messages and act accordingly. In my early teens, I destroyed some music that I thought I shouldn’t listen to or have at home. Stairway to Heaven was a difficult one for my friends and me. We thought the song and the lyrics were so utterly beautiful and yet we couldn’t listen to it out of fear of what could happen to us if we did. That’s the tension I felt by listening to this record: a teenage attraction to something dangerously beautiful. I am still intrigued how these myths are created and the effect they can have. So I started to learn to sing the song and its lyrics in reverse. After three months the job was done. I went up to the steps outside Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London and performed it for an audience of confused passers-by, pigeons, and a video camera. Back home I reversed the tape and put a karaoke track underneath.

The Best Gay Europop Ever

November 15, 2007 by youmybabydaddy

Prepare to be dazzled.  I don’t know if Army of Lovers was ever known to North America, but I will do my best to spread the word.  Enjoy the sounds of the shameful era of music that was the early 90s:

Don’t be frightened.  Admit you love it.  I’m going to have these songs in my head all day.  Noooooooooooo!

gay or straight?

why does it always have to be one or the other?  in the case of little jake gyllenhaal, who’s surrounded by lots of gay!  no!  straight! rumors, i totally get the neither vibe.  so, for the record, despite the fact that i love him and would like very much to see him naked, i think jake is asexual.

You need to come down to the cellar…

I just found this site, Soundboard Archive.  It kinda looks like a spam site, but don’t let that deter you from the sweet, sweet content.  Here’s one for Sarah.

i am seriously in love with this turtle. my reasons for loving it are two fold:

  1. it’s really cute, both sides.
  2. it makes me think and sometimes i like that. when i look at the turtle i wonder things like:
    • does it just have one name or two?
    • how does it walk?
      • does one turtle lead and does the other follow?
      • do they share the work?
      • are they always fighting about which way to go?
    • do the two heads get along?
    • can i have a pet like this if i glue two turtles together?
      • what’s the best glue to use on turtles?
